This controller will get the actual link from the database.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Details of the solution:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For maintaining maximum google juice to the original URL, the Url\u2019s Controller does a 301 redirect which is the recommended type of redirect.<\/li>\n<li>Instead of using model id, we are using a unique 6 character code.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s build our URL shortener application<\/p>\n<p>run command<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/way-to-shorten-Long-URLS-in-Rails.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/way-to-shorten-Long-URLS-in-Rails.png\" width=\"247\" height=\"21\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>cd into application directory<br \/>Run bundle install as always<\/p>\n<p>Now we need to create a table that will store our shortened urls<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shorten-Long-URLS-in-RAILS.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27374 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shorten-Long-URLS-in-RAILS.png\" width=\"315\" height=\"20\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And then, add the below code into your migration file<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shorten-URLS-in-Rails-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27375 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shorten-URLS-in-Rails-1.png\" width=\"410\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We need to write programming logic to generate the shortened URLS that we can add to our model called shortened_url.<\/p>\n<p>Open the shortened_url.rb. It should look somewhat like the below mentioned file.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/way-to-shorten-URLS.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" create a controller to generate and manage redirection of shortened URLS<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railscarma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/shorten-Long-URLS.png\"><img decoding=\"async\"
